A Review of Climate Change Impact Studies on Harmful Algal Blooms

چکیده
The occurrence of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in coastal and inland waters has a significant impact on societies. This complex biogeophysical phenomenon becomes further complicated due to the climate change. review summarizes research performed recent years direction change three lake parameters, viz. temperature, precipitation, runoff, ice, which impacts ecology and, turn, HABs. present paper also reviews work related relationship between purpose this study is provide researchers with opportunity understand current HABs so they can contribute effectively one most important phenomena that will severely water quality future warmer climate, as well bodies. Furthermore, aims discuss how climate.

Impacts of climate variability and future climate change on harmful algal blooms and human health
Anthropogenically-derived increases in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations have been implicated in recent climate change, and are projected to substantially impact the climate on a global scale in the future. For marine and freshwater systems, increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases are expected to increase surface temperatures, lower pH, and cause changes to vertical mixing, upwell...
متن کاملModels of Harmful Algal Blooms
Models used to study harmful algal blooms are a subset of those used to examine more general planktonic processes. Most models have been heuristic, examining the likelihood of certain processes generating a harmful algal bloom. Several models have been more closely coupled to field data and have been used to gain insights into the dynamics underlying the observations. As better physical and bio...
متن کاملMitigating cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms in aquatic ecosystems impacted by climate change and anthropogenic nutrients.
Mitigating the global expansion of cyanobacterial harmful blooms (CyanoHABs) is a major challenge facing researchers and resource managers. A variety of traditional (e.g., nutrient load reduction) and experimental (e.g., artificial mixing and flushing, omnivorous fish removal) approaches have been used to reduce bloom occurrences. Managers now face the additional effects of climate change on wa...
متن کاملHarmful algal blooms and climate change: Learning from the past and present to forecast the future.
Climate change pressures will influence marine planktonic systems globally, and it is conceivable that harmful algal blooms may increase in frequency and severity. These pressures will be manifest as alterations in temperature, stratification, light, ocean acidification, precipitation-induced nutrient inputs, and grazing, but absence of fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms driving harmful al...
